At Muga we understand sustainability as a way of working and living the vineyard. From the winery we promote initiatives that reduce the environmental footprint, encourage biodiversity and prolong the healthy state of our vines. Below you can discover three of the projects that best represent this commitment.
Sustainable Bodega
We are accredited by Sustainable Wineries for Climate Protection, a comprehensive label which lifts the standards in reduction of emissions and the efficient management of energy, water and waste, in line with the SDGs. It certifies us as a responsible supplier and guides our continuous improvement throughout the value chain.
Sexual confusion
We apply the sexual confusion technique with Puffer® devices by Suterra®: these release pheromones which disorientate the male pests, reducing their reproduction. In this way, we avoid having to use conventional pesticides, reduce the use of fuel per hectare, do not leave traces of residue on the fruit and cut the carbon footprint.
Nesting boxes and bats
We respect the biodiversity of the vineyard by installing nesting boxes for birds and bats, which help to balance the ecosystem and control pests naturally. Insectivorous birds and birds of prey reduce insects and small mammals, while bats, especially in summer, limit moths and larvae.
